JANET RUTH CULHAM, (nee MacLean), passed away peacefully at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the age of 95 years.
Ruth is survived by her son Mac Culham and daughter Allison (Barry) Adams; and grandsons Ross and Malcolm (Mallory) Adams and John and Richard Culham, as well as dear nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jack, sisters Dorothy and Mary, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Ruth was born August 12, 1923 in Saskatoon. She was always proud of her home province but lived most of her life in Edmonton which she also loved.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Ruth was an extremely social person and loved being with people, providing frequent hospitality to family and friends. She and Jack shared many interests including dancing, travel, photography and the outdoors. The cottage at Lac La Biche was a favorite family gathering place.
Ruth graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Although she never worked outside the home, she used her education in numerous volunteer roles and interests. She provided a wide range of services in her community including hospital visitation, delivering meals on wheels, mounting early recycling initiatives, volunteering at the Walter Dale Playhouse as well as being an active member in PEO, University Women’s club and the United Church.
In later years, Ruth faced her declining health with courage and dignity, never complaining. She retained her interest in music, reading, nature and the out of doors, up to her very last day. She will be deeply missed.
Ruth’s family wish to extend heartfelt thanks for the loving care provided by her companions Monica and Janine and by staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, especially in her last days.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at ST. AUGUSTINE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411-11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Steve Bateman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to your local Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
