HAZEL IRENE RASMUSSEN, beloved wife of the late Iven Rasmussen, of Del Bonita, passed away at the Good Samaritans Garden Vista in Magrath, on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the age of 92 years.

Hazel is survived by her six children Cheryl (Charles) Dangel, Beverly (Will) Popowich, Russell (Sadie) Rasmussen, Myrna (Jim) Layton, Cindy (Joe) Lamoureux and Wesley (Jacquie) Rasmussen; as well as 17 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ken (Rita) Deglow, sister Beverly (Roy) Nelson, numerous nieces and nephews as well as a special nephew Allen (Barb) Deglow.

She was predeceased by her husband Iven Rasmussen, grandson Russell Layton and 13 brothers and sisters.

Hazel was born November 14, 1925 in Magrath, the ninth of 16 children born to Nanna and Elmer Deglow.

Hazel & Iven were totally devoted to each other. They did everything together. Their goals were the same and they worked together to achieve them. After Iven’s stroke, Hazel cared for him until his passing on August 10, 1996. Together, they built a successful farm where they enjoyed farming and raising livestock while Hazel gardened, grew beautiful flowers, quilted hundreds of quilts and raised their strong and healthy children. Life wasn’t easy but their endless devotion to each other sustained them.

Hazel cooked, sewed, tied fleece, herded sheep, drove tractor, gardened, stocked grain and mended broken hearts. She was a caring neighbour, a valued volunteer and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 82 North – 2 Street West, Magrath, AB, on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Jeremy Richert officiating.

Hazel will be laid to rest with her husband Iven in the Magrath Cemetery.
