Elma Maxine Buckland
18 January 1929 – 28 March 2017
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and grandmother who will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Maxine leaves behind her two loving children; Jane (Barton) Heine and Jerry Buckland; seven grandchildren; Laura (Tim) Pearce, Gordon (Bonnie) Heine, Daniel Buckland and David and Thomas Nearing. She cherished her time with her grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them. She was a very kind, patient, and loving woman who will be dearly missed.
Maxine was predeceased by her daughter Diane Buckland, son in law Greg Nearing, daughter in law Elizabeth Buckland as well as her husband Paul Buckland.
Maxine began her life in Regina, and moved with her dad and siblings to Edmonton, after her mom passed away. She later met Paul Buckland and married in 1955 in Edmonton, and lived in several cities including Bay City, Michigan; London, Ontario; San Francisco, Montreal, and Calgary.
Maxine worked hard throughout her life. As an adult, she completed her high school diploma and began a career with Shell Oil in Calgary, where she worked for over seventeen years. She also completed an accounting diploma from SAIT during this time.
Maxine loved her family and friends and will be remembered for her heart-to-heart talks, walks, and wonderful cooking. She was warm, caring, had a quick wit, and made the best apple pie. Maxine was loved by many including her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Walsh for his continued care and to the Good Samaritans Park Meadows for the special care our mother received over the many years she lived there.
A Memorial Service will be held at ST. AUGUSTINE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411-11th Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. with Canon James Robinson, officiating.
A Memorial Reception will also be held in Calgary later this spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, #402, 740-4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9 would be greatly appreciated..
