CHESTER HUGH TURNER, beloved husband of the late Jennie Turner, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at the age of 87 years.
Chester is survived by his children; Robert “Bob” (Patty) Turner of St. Albert, Cathy (Edwin) Anderson, Bryan (Evelyn) Turner, and Donna (Oriano) Castelli all of Lethbridge; eight grandchildren, Jay Turner, Ryan (Amy) Anderson, Jennifer (Jason) Prevost, Kellan Turner (Carli), Lauren Turner, Jaslyn Turner (Matthew), Nickolas Castelli (Samantha) and Kristopher Castelli; seven great-grandchildren, Lily, Wade, Reid, Dylan Anderson and Dominic, Harrison, Isla Prevost.
Chester was one of five children born to William and Grace Turner on March 9, 1929 in Orion, Alberta; a brother to William (Bill), Ethel, Wanda and Russell. He married Jennie Bartosek in Raymond Alberta on November 3, 1950 and spent 52 years together before her passing in 2002.
Chester entered service as a station agent with the Canadian Pacific Railway on July 28, 1944. He worked in various locations and positions throughout southern Alberta before settling in Lethbridge. Chester retired from the railway in 1986 after 42 years.
He loved sports and could often be heard talking to the TV telling the Blue Jays how to play ball. Chester supported his kids and grandkids sporting adventures and was a fixture in the stands at their events. After retirement, he and mom loved travelling south to Nevada.
Never to complain, even when he was not well, if anyone asked Chester how he was feeling his response would be “I’m pretty good”. He was a man of few words.
Our family extends a special thank you to the staff at Good Samaritans West Highlands for their care and compassion over the past few years.
Dad will be sadly missed and never forgotten. We have all been blessed to have had him in our lives and take comfort in knowing he will be at peace with mom now.
Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, #204, 2323 – 32 Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB, T2E 6Z3.
