Besides his loving wife Blossom, of 65 years, Mert is survived by his daughters Gloria and Melody, as well as his grandchildren Tammy (Jason) Ruff and Jason (Kristy) Logan. Also left to cherish his memory are his great-grandchildren Braden, Devin, Chad, Ashton and Chloe. He is also survived by two of his brothers Allan and Richard.
He was predeceased by his parents, as well as one brother and two sisters.
Mert was a people person; he lived for his family, and he loved talking to others and making new friendships with whomever he encountered. He was very likeable and charismatic, and was treasured for his ‘heart of gold’. Not only did Mert have good relationships with people, but he was also fond of any type of animal. Aside from that, he enjoyed grocery shopping, fishing, and trucking. He liked participating in Bingo during his time at Edith Cavell.
At Mert’s request, a Private Family Service will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank all of the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Edith Cavell Care Centre and the Chinook Regional Hospital (Floor 4C) for their caring support of Mert throughout his time with them.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Mert, donations may be made to the Humane Society – 2920 16 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 5E9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation – PO Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4K7.
