LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE (12:45 pm): One suspect has been arrested.

Lethbridge Police are reporting an assault in the downtown park Friday morning.

They were called to the western end of Galt Gardens at approximately 8:30 am on reports that a 37-year-old man was attacked and was bleeding.

Sgt. Jason Carrier says, at the time they arrived on the scene, the victim was being loaded into an ambulance.

“The initial information we have is that one-to-three subjects at the time [were involved], but due to the victim’s condition, we’re not able to get any further information out of him, so we’re still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.”

One suspect was identified and later found along the 1,400 block of 2nd Ave North where he was arrested without incident.

Carrier claims that the suspects used a weapon to assault the man, and although police have some information on what the weapon might have been, he was not able to say.

“This was not a random incident as the parties involved are known to one another,” reads a media release from LPS.

The victim is in Chinook Regional Hospital with undetermined injuries.

LPS is asking the public to contact them if they have any information on the incident or if they might know who was involved.

For now, Carrier says he understands if people need to be in the area around Galt Gardens, but he is asking that they stay away from the plaza while they investigate.
