Lethbridge man charged in connection with stabbing outside City Hall

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 38-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing.

Lethbridge Police say that on December 30 at around 1:22 p.m., a man allegedly chased another man to the front lawn of Lethbridge City Hall and punched him several times before stabbing him in the leg.

LPS responded and found the man along the 400 block of Stafford Drive South.

Police reported that the man resisted arrest and assaulted the officers – noting they then seized a 12-inch knife from his waistband.

In a release, LPS said that the arresting officer recognized the man from an unrelated incident on December 29, where a group of people allegedly assaulted and restrained an employee while stealing from a liquor store along the 2000 block of 2 Avenue North.

The victims in both reported incidents sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Lethbridge’s Garrett Shane Williams is charged with:

· Assault (x3)

· Assault with a weapon

· Assaulting a Peace Officer

· Carrying a concealed weapon

· Breaching probation (x3)

· Theft under $5,000

· Unlawful confinement

Williams is in LPS custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
