City mails out property assessment notices to residents

Jan 3, 2020 | 9:31 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Commercial and residential property owners should be receiving their property assessment notices in the mail within the next few days.

The notices were mailed out today, January 3. A property assessment is an estimate of the price your property might have sold for on the open market as of July 1 of the previous year.

Assessed values are based off the physical condition of one’s property as of December 31 of the previous year.

If a notice is not received by a property owner by January 13, they’re advised to call 311, or 403-320-3111 if calling from outside of Lethbridge, to receive a copy.

If anyone has further questions about property assessments, they can call city Assessment staff through 311 or by emailing assessment@lethbridge.ca.

If a property owner has already met with a City Assessor and is not satisfied with the value of their property, a formal complaint can be made ahead of the appeal deadline – property owners have 60 days after the assessment notice date to make a formal appeal.

Additionally, property owners can view the status of property assessments and sign up to receive their tax notice via ebill in May through the MyCity tool at Lethbridge.ca/MyCity.
