COALDALE – UPDATE: Coaldale RCMP are continuing to investigate a fatal collision from Monday night but have provided some updates.

They have confirmed that a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara was heading eastbound on Highway 3 when it hit the rear of an older blue Dodge one-ton truck that was merging eastbound onto Highway 3.

The collision occurred at the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 512 near the McCain’s plan at Chin at approximately 8:00 pm Monday.

The driver of the silver Suzuki, who was killed in the collision, has been confirmed to be an 18-year-old woman.

The driver of the Dodge truck, a 46-year-old woman, was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while a 55-year-old male passenger in the truck was not injured.

The name of the deceased woman will not be released at this time. Her family has been notified.

“All possible factors are being considered in this matter,” says Coaldale RCMP Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry. “What is known there was good winter driving road condition and clear weather.”

“Our thoughts are with the affected families with a tragic event especially occurring so close to the holiday season.”

Eastbound traffic on Highway 3 was rerouted until approximately 2:00 am on Tuesday.
