LETHBRIDGE, AB – The New West Theatre in Lethbridge has a new person in charge.

Sheri Becker worked her first day in the role this past Monday and says she is excited to see what she can bring to the organization.

While she has not worked directly in theatre in the past, her most recent job in the Elk Valley region of southwestern B.C. was with an arts organization.

“I really just love theatre and I love the arts, specifically the arts in Alberta is such a niche market, it’s a very close community.”

Becker has spent the last 10 years in the business world and the prior year or so in non-profits. Her work has focused on everything from finance, education, management, and business consultation.

Due to this, she believes she will fit in just fine at New West Theatre.

“It’s just a natural progression for New West in the rate that they’re going to bring in newer and younger crowds. I’m kind of in the middle of my career, but I can bring a fresh and new perspective to the organization.”

Her first initiative with the company is already in the works.

She is planning to host an annual fundraiser gala that will reportedly be “nothing Lethbridge has seen before”, starting this March with a live dinner theatre.

“Our theme for this year is ‘Cirque du L.A.’, so we’re going to have performers and a live sit-down dinner and just various events and entertainment throughout the night.”

New West Theatre’s Artistic Director Kelly Reay says ideas like this are part of why they are “incredibly excited” to have Becker join their team.

“Sheri brings a wealth of experience to the company, in addition to a passion and affinity for the performing arts. We are thrilled to embark on the next phase of the company’s legacy, with Sheri in a key leadership role.”
