LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 63-year-old man charged in the death of a 42-year-old Pikanii Band Councillor, educator, and sobriety advocate, will likely have his case resolved later this spring; nearly two years after the collision that took the life of Barney Provost.

An agent for Douglas Bagnall’s lawyer appeared in Lethbridge Provincial Court today (Monday), to waive a detention hearing, and to announce that a resolution is expected April 16.

Bagnall is charged with one count each of impaired driving, impaired driving causing death, and dangerous driving causing death.

RCMP say on June 25, 2018, a Toyota Corolla travelling the wrong way on Highway 3 west of the Highway 509 intersection, hit an oncoming Chevy Impala. The driver was killed, while his daughter was injured.

Bagnall has been in custody since January 2019, when he was arrested for breach of conditions, after failing to attend three separate court dates and six weekly visits to Lethbridge Police. A forensic assessment was also ordered and completed last spring, to determine whether he was fit to stand trial.
