LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police in Lethbridge are looking into a case of a stolen vehicle that caught fire.

LPS stated in a release that on January 15, just before 8:30 a.m., they responded to a report that a car left running to warm up had been stolen from the driveway of a residence on Stafford Bay North.

The owner spotted the vehicle backing out of his driveway and ran to stop it. After a brief struggle, the subject was able to speed away in the vehicle.

At around 11:00 a.m., Coaldale RCMP notified LPS that they had found the car on fire in a farmer’s field.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, about 20 to 25-years-old, who was wearing a grey coat with the hood up (described as having fur around the hood) and winter boots with fur on top.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police are reminding motorists to never leave unlocked vehicles running and unattended.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
