Study: Nearly all forms of “social disorder” increased in Lethbridge after SCS’ opening
LETHBRIDGE, AB – “When you’re high on meth, you’re not your best self,” Dr. Em Pijl told Lethbridge City Council at Monday’s Community Issues Committee meeting.
Dr. Pijl is a researcher at the University of Lethbridge who, prior to the Supervised Consumption Site (SCS) opening in March 2018, was commissioned by council to look into how various aspects of “antisocial behaviour” has changed since it started operating.
The Urban Social Issues Study was conducted through the use of five surveys between January 2018 and February 2019, garnering a total of 665 responses. It measures the perceptions the public has about these issues but does not include statistics from Lethbridge Police Service.
“It basically showed that there is increasing antisocial behaviour and social disorder related primarily to the drug crisis that is happening and the lack of services we’re experiencing,” says Dr. Pijl.
