Hurricanes down Warriors 7-1

MOOSE JAW — Another reversal of fortunes for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

After losing to the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-2 on Saturday (Jan 19) night, The Hurricanes pulled out a 7-1 win against the Warriors in Moose Jaw on Wednesday (Jan 23) night.

The win included a Hat Trick for Dylan Cozens. He began the scoring achievement just 90-seconds after puck drop, with a power play goal, assisted by Alex Cotton and Calen Addison. The team continued the scoring one minute later, with another power play goal from Oliver Okuliar, this time assisted by Dylan Cozens and Alex Cotton.

Less than three minutes into the game, the Canes are up 2-0.

It was at the eleven-minute mark that a couple players got bees under their bonnets. The Canes’ Koletane Wilson was hit behind the net, but in the end, he pulled in a two-minute minor for being the Instigator, as well as a five-minute major for fighting and a ten-minute game misconduct. The Warriors’ Owen Hardy pulled in two minutes for checking from behind and a five-minute major for fighting.

Action calmed down after the scrum. The next goal came at 17:48 from Oliver Okuliar. His second of the game gave the Canes a 3-0 lead, which held until the period ended.

The middle frame opened with a couple of minor penalties and it wasn’t until 13:19, when Cade Hayes charted the initial goal for the Warriors.

The next goals for the Canes came at 19:14, courtesy of Justin Hall, and a second from Dylan Cozens, just 26-seconds later, gave the Canes a 5-1 lead just before the frame ended.

The final 20-minutes finished off the one-sided game for the Canes. Dylan Cozens charted his hat trick third goal at 8:13, on a power play, putting the Canes up 6-1. The final goal came at 11:37 off the stick of Ty Nash. With eight minutes to go in the game, the Canes already had the 7-1 win.

The Hurricanes outscored the Warriors 52-24. All three Stars went to the Hurricanes: 1) Dylan Cozens, 2) Oliver Okuliar, 3) Alex Cotton.

The Canes are now 27-11-2-5 in the standings and continue their eastern road trip in Regina on Friday evening (Jan 24).
