LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 28-year-old Lethbridge woman, already serving time in prison for robbery, won’t spend any additional time in jail after she was sentenced Wednesday, Jan. 22 for two counts of arson.

Provincial Court Judge Jerry LeGrandeur told the court because the woman had been going through a difficult time, was abusing drugs, emotionally abused and suffering from transitional residential school trauma, he would sentence Tila Bailey Scout to five months, to be served concurrently with her 30-month sentence.

“I’m sentencing them as first offences,” he said Wednesday, Jan. 22, adding that Gladue considerations were a factor in his decision. He emphasized that prior to her first conviction Jan. 7, Scout did not have a criminal record.

According to Crown Prosecutor Clayton Giles, more than $55,000 in damage was caused at two north Lethbridge homes. Unless a civil action is brought against her, Scout will not have to pay restitution.

Lethbridge Police said just before 10 p.m. August 21,2019, Police and Fire responded to a 911 call regarding a house fire along the 900 block of 9 Ave. N. Eighteen fire fighters from three stations responded and the fire was extinguished within an hour.

While crews were on scene, a woman approached a police officer and reported multiple fires inside her home – two blocks away. Fire crews went to the woman’s home along the 700 block of 9 Ave. N. and spent 30 minutes extinguishing hot spots.

Scout is currently serving time for her part in a robbery at the Circle K/Esso gas station on Bluefox Blvd. N. on Aug. 16, 2019. Court heard that she brandished a gun and demanded cash from the clerk while a man stationed himself at the exit. The pair left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

She pleaded guilty on December 20, 2019, to charges of robbery, disguised during the commission of an offense, and the use of an imitation firearm to commit an offense.
