U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Recap: January 24-26, 2020

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Kodiaks indoor track teams started their year off in Edmonton.

Here’s a recap of the action this weekend from the Lethbridge College athletics program and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The men’s basketball team remains undefeated following a couple of wins this weekend. They beat Red Deer College 93-71 on Friday and 97-83 on Saturday.

The women’s team unfortunately did not have as good of a weekend as the men’s team. They lost to RDC 76-67 on Friday and by just three points Saturday. The final score in that game was 79-76.

The indoor track teams competed in their first Grand Prix of the year, hosted by MacEwan University in Edmonton. The host team finished first overall on the women’s side, while Red Deer College’s men’s team claimed the top spot.

The Kodiaks men’s group finished eight overall and the women’s group placed sixth.

Red Deer hosts the second Grand Prix of the year on March 7.

U OF L PRONGHORNS

A lighter weekend for the U of L Pronghorns. The women’s hockey team had a 50-50 weekend. On Friday (Jan. 24), they picked up the 3-2 win against Mount Royal University. On Saturday night, this time on home ice in Lethbridge, they lost 4-3. The Pronghorns’ record stands at 8-14-1-1.

The men’s hockey team lost both of their matchups against Mount Royal in overtime. Friday’s final was 3-2 and Saturday’s game ended 4-3. That’s now eight losses in a row for the men’s hockey club, with their record at 5-16-3-0.

The ringette team competed at the CORA Tournament, tying with the Calgary Resurge 3-3 and losing to the Edmonton Alumni 4-3.
