Hurricanes pick up 3-1 win against Prince Albert

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Back home after a seven-game road trip, the Hurricanes were looking to excite the Lethbridge crowd with a win as they hosted the Prince Albert Raiders Saturday night.

The game was also recognized as a mental health awareness game, as the Hurricanes teamed with Canadian Mental Health Association, CMHA Lethbridge for the evening.

FIRST PERIOD

Zack Hayes got the scoring started 4:27 in, giving PA the early 1-0 lead.

At 8:32, Dylan Cozens was issued a minor penalty for high sticking.This was followed by a call on Prince Albert’s Spencer Moe (minor for interference). His teammate Landon Kosior was then issued a minor penalty for hooking at 12:03. This put Lethbridge on the power play, and they took advantage.

Oliver Okuliar scored his 29th of the season at the 13:43 mark, off assists from Logan Barlage and Alex Cotton, tying the game at 1-1.

Before the opening period came to a close, Prince Albert’s Jeremy Masella was called for cross checking, a minor penalty at 16:29.

SECOND PERIOD

No goals in the second period, but game officials did dish out some penalties.

Lethbridge’s Alex Thacker was issued a minor for high sticking 27 seconds into the frame. Danila Palivko (Lethbridge) was then called for tripping (minor) at 7:27.

Shortly before the period’s end, at 15:46, Matthew Culling (PA) was given a minor for slashing.

Oliver Okuliar was called for closing his hand on the puck at 19:20, a minor penalty.

The clock ticked down and the second came to a close, the game tied at one going into the final period.

THIRD PERIOD

It took ten minutes for the game’s tie-breaking goal, but it was one that delighted the home fans at the 10:50 mark.

Calen Addison scored his ninth of the season, thanks to assists from Alex Thacker and Brett Davis, giving Lethbridge the 2-1 lead halfway through the period.

At the 15:10 mark, Davis (Lethbridge) was given a minor penalty for delay of game.

That didn’t hold the ‘Canes back, as minutes later at the 18:22 mark, Oliver Okuliar scored his second of the evening matchup and 30th goal of the season on an empty net to put Lethbridge up 3-1.

Dylan Cozens and Ty Prefontaine earned the assists on what wound up being the final goal of the game.

The final minute and change went by without another goal by the visiting Raiders, and the Hurricanes left the ice victorious. Lethbridge coach Brent Kisio left the game extra happy, becoming the winningest coach in franchise history with 189 victories.

Up next for Lethbridge is a trip to Calgary to face the Hitmen Sunday afternoon, Feb. 8. at 4:00 p.m.

Prince Albert’s back on home ice Friday, Feb. 14 against the Swift Current Broncos.
