LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new framework agreement has just been reached by the St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID), Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District (LNID), and Lethbridge County. It will focus on future plans and partnerships to benefit area businesses and residents.

This framework plan is designed to see the County and irrigation districts work together on problem solving and future challenges.

Lethbridge County Chief Administrative Officer Ann Mitchell knows how important irrigation is to the region.

“Irrigation plays a critical role in the economy of our region. We understand the importance of collaboration with the irrigation districts and look forward to what the future brings now that we have a solid framework to work with.”

General Manager Alan Harrold of LNID said he’s been ready for the agreement for a while now.

“This agreement will benefit our stakeholders and give us the opportunity to collaborate with the SMRID and County on future challenges and opportunities.”

This new framework will require the three parties to meet regularly to discuss the potential irrigation projects in the County. The groups will decide how projects will be budgeted and guidelines that go with the projects.

The term of the agreement will end on September 30, 2021.
