Lethbridge women and supporters mark second Annual Women’s Memorial March

LETHBRIDGE, AB- The annual Women’s Memorial March to honor women and girls that have been murdered or gone missing in Canada was held in Lethbridge on Friday.

This was the second year for the march in Lethbridge, but all across the country, women marched for what they believe in, which originally started in Vancouver over 25 years ago.

Dozens came out to the march today including Mayor Chris Spearman and other city councillors.

A report from the national inquiry of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in 2019 was released and found that Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing among other Canadian demographics.

Also, Indigenous women are 16 times more likely to go missing or be murdered than caucasian woman.

Lethbridge’s Sisters in Spirit Committee invited the public to join them and grieve, heal, and remember anyone that has gone missing or has passed.

Community Member Tanya Crosschild was trying to get her message out.

“We’re all human beings and we all deserve equal opportunities in our community, in society as well, and that’s not often the case.”
