U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Recap: Feb. 28-March 1, 2020

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Here’s a look at what Lethbridge College and the University of Lethbridge’s athletes were up to this weekend.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The men’s volleyball team was the only school club in action. They competed in the ACAC men’s volleyball championships on home court.

The Kodiaks made it all the way to the finals but fell to Red Deer College in four sets.

The men’s basketball team competes at the ACAC championship tournament starting Thursday, March 5 at the University of Alberta-Augustana. Medicine Hat College hosts the women’s conference championships.

The Lethbridge College indoor track teams will be in Red Deer this coming Saturday, March 7 for their second Grand Prix of the season.

U OF L PRONGHORNS

At the last stop of the 2020 Canada West Sevens Series, the ‘Horns women’s team defeated Trinity Western University to finish in fifth place.

In their opening match against the University of Calgary on Saturday (Sept. 29), they lost 17-12. This was followed by a dominant 34-0 win over UBC Okanagan, then a 15-5 loss to the University of Victoria.

On Sunday (March 1), the Pronghorns beat the University of the Fraser Valley 38-0. In the fifth-place game against Trinity Western, the Lethbridge crew earned the 24-5 victory.

The Victoria Vikes came away from the event as champions by defeating the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 29-0.

UPDATE: In overall Canada West Sevens Series standings, the Pronghorns have placed fourth. They’ll compete next at the 2020 Canadian University Rugby Sevens Championship from March 20 to 24. The event is hosted by the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario.

Later this week, the track and field team competes at the U SPORTS Championships in Edmonton. The event is on from Thursday, March 5 to Saturday, March 7.
