Lethbridge Lightning pick up a win and loss in first-round RHL playoff action

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Lightning are vying for gold.

The team is currently tied at 1-1 with the Siksika Buffaloes in their first-round Ranchland Hockey League (RHL) playoff series, which began this past weekend.

On Friday evening, Feb. 28, the Lightning picked up an 8-2 win at Nicholas Sheran Arena over Siksika.

Cody Berube and Nick Hoobanoff each scored two goals, with Mitch McAllister, Laramie Kostelansky, James Price and Justin Schmit scoring one goal each.

On the road Saturday, the Lightning fell to the Buffaloes, 9-6. Cam Hurt scored a hat-trick for Lethbridge, with Hoobanoff, Price and Berube each scoring a goal.

The series is now a best-of-three with the Lightning hosting the Buffaloes this Friday, March 6. Lethbridge returns to Siksika Saturday night, March 7.

If necessary, game five will take place Sunday at Lethbridge’s Nic Sheran Arena.

In the other league semi-final, Nanton defeated Fort Macleod 9-2 Friday, with Fort Macleod scoring an 8-5 win on home ice Saturday. That series’ tie will be broken Friday (March 6) in Nanton.
