Raymond woman charged with assaulting two seniors in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police have charged a woman, 23, in connection with a robbery where two senior citizens were assaulted.

On Wednesday, March 11, the downtown branch of the Lethbridge Public Library was hosting a public film festival where two seniors who attempted to stop a robbery were assaulted.

According to police, an unknown female took a laptop and two cups of hot coffee from the room when she was confronted by a 73-year-old woman who was one of the event’s organizers.

The suspect was told that the laptop belonged to the library, and following a brief verbal altercation, she allegedly threw the hot coffee in the senior citizen’s face. The victim suffered first-degree burns.

The suspect fled upstairs where she was confronted by a 78-year-old woman who was attending the festival. The suspect reportedly threw the second cup of coffee at the 78-year-old’s upper body.

A security officer rushed to assist the second victim and was able to recover the laptop, but the suspect fled.

Surveillance footage was provided to police.

Then on Sunday, March 15 at approximately 9:30 am, a police officer was dealing with a suspect at the front counter of the police station and recognized her as the unidentified woman wanted in connection with these incidents.

Cheyenne Sommerlye Tilley, 23, of Raymond, is charged with robbery and assault with a weapon.

She was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on April 9.
