Five new COVID-19 related deaths in Alberta, 29 new cases

The Calgary Zone now has 422-cases and four deaths, Edmonton Zone has 164-cases and three deaths, the North Zone has 45-cases and one death, the Central Zone registers 46 cases and the South Zone continues to have 12 cases, with one case considered to be from an unknown region.

As of March 30th, Alberta Health had completed 46,057 COVID-19 tests.

Also of note, new quarantine regulations are being instituted across the country.

Dr. Hinshaw recently took part in a national COVID-19 Advisory Committee where it was noted the Federal Quarantine Act determines that anyone under mandatory self-isolation, must remain on their property for the duration of their isolation time.

While some provinces, like Alberta, have allowed those under self isolation to leave their property for short walks, the risk of continuing to do this has prompted a uniform recommendation that will be in effect across the Canada.

According to Dr. Hinshaw, if you are self-isolating or quarantined because you have been out of the country or have been in contact with a confirmed case of covid-19, you must now remain on your own property, whether it is rented or owned.

“You can no longer go for walks in your neighborhood or at the park, until your self-isolation period ends. Do NOT hae visitors over, do NOT got to public areas or spaces or community settings. Arrange to have someone pick-up essential like groceries or medication. People who live in apartment buildings or high-rises must stay inside their unit, and cannot use the elevators or stairwells to go outside.”

Hinshaw says she knows it is incredibly difficult to stay indoors or close to home for 14-days, but says this is what we must do protect each other.
