OTTAWA, ON – In his daily COVID-19 briefing outside his Ottawa residence this morning, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the government would donate $100 million to meet urgent food needs across the country, including in northern and Indigenous communities.

Trudeau said the money will help buy and deliver food to the people who need it most.

Various organizations will receive funding, including The Breakfast Club of Canada, The Salvation Army, Food Banks Canada, Second Harvest, and Community Food Centres Canada, among others.

The Prime Minister added that the Canadian Forces are being sent to northern Quebec to help communities prepare to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that the Government of Canada is answering a call from the Quebec government.

Trudeau added that the federal government has an agreement with Amazon to use its distribution network to send medical supplies to meet provincial needs.
