LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services is reminding the public about the dangers of leaving portable electronic devices plugged in for too long.

They were called to a residential building fire in the 3600 block of 23 Ave South at approximately 6:35 pm on Tuesday, April 7.

Upon the arrival of firefighters, they found light smoke coming out of the building.

Personnel from two fire stations were able to extinguish the blaze.

There were no injuries, but damages are estimated at $15,000.

The fire has been determined to be accidental. They say there was a problem with the battery in the device while it was being charged for a lengthy amount of time.

“Residents are reminded that there is always a potential for fire when any portable electronic device is left plugged in.”
