10 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in South Health Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its latest report on COVID-19 infections across the province.

On Saturday, April 18, 165 new cases were confirmed, bringing Alberta’s total to 2,562.

57 people have been hospitalized, 14 of which were admitted to intensive care units.

450 cases are believed to be the result of community transmission

293 infections occurred at continuing care facilities. 32 residents in these centres have died.

Over the last 24 hours, 4,092 tests were completed, meaning 92,962 have been completed to date.

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 1,820 cases, 35 deaths (one new)
    • 40,168 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 443 cases, eight deaths
    • 30,282 tests
  • North zone – 137 cases, seven deaths
    • 7,580 tests
  • South zone – 77 cases, zero deaths
    • 4,671 tests
  • Central zone – 76 cases, one death
    • 8,693 tests

For the South Health Zone, 10 new infections were confirmed.

  • Brooks – 40 cases (eight new)
  • Medicine Hat – 15 cases (two new), nine recovered
  • Lethbridge – 11 cases, eight recovered
    • South Lethbridge – six cases, five recovered
    • West Lethbridge – five cases, three recovered
  • Cypress County – six cases
  • M.D. of Taber – two cases, two recovered
  • County of Forty Mile – two cases, two recovered
  • Lethbridge County – one case
