LETHBRIDGE, AB – The accolades keep coming for the Lethbridge Hurricanes and its players.

Defenceman Calen Addison has been named the Western Hockey League (WHL) Eastern Conference Defenceman of the Year. With this recognition, the 20-year-old is a nominee for the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy for WHL Defenceman of the Year, presented by RE/MAX of Western Canada.

Addison is a prospect of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild. During the shortened 2019-2020 WHL season, he recorded 52 points (10 goals, 42 assists), including four power-play goals and two game-winners.

He finished tied for seventh in scoring among all defencemen in the league.

Across the season, Addison posted 14 multi-point games, including his first WHL hat-trick on November 23, 2019 and a five-assist game on January 24, 2020.

The 2019-2020 campaign marked his third straight season of attaining double-digit goals, 40-plus assists and 50-plus points.

He also finished the season ranked fifth in all-time assists by Hurricanes skaters and surpassed former Hurricane Brent Seabrook for second place all-time scoring among Lethbridge defencemen.

Addison served as an alternate captain for the team and oversaw a defence that allowed just 193 goals through 63 games.

Additionally, along with Hurricanes teammate Dylan Cozens, Addison won a gold medal with Team Canada at the IIHF World Juniors tournament over the Christmas holiday break.

Earlier this month, he was named to the WHL Eastern Conference First All-Star Team.
