LETHBRIDGE, AB – Although the 2019-2020 Western Hockey League (WHL) season ended prematurely due to COVID-19, there’s still plenty to celebrate.

The league has announced that Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Year.

The 19-year-old was drafted by the ‘Canes back in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, with the 19th pick of the first round. The Whitehorse, Yukon-born Cozens was named the 28th captain in Hurricanes history, serving as co-captain for the 2019-2020 campaign.

He laced up his skates in 51 games during the regular season for Lethbridge, totalling a team-leading 85 points. He set new career-highs in goals (38) and in points with 85.

Cozens was selected seventh overall in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres and finished this most recent WHL season with 25 power-play points (eight goals, 17 assists), along with a team-high six game-winners and four shorthanded goals.

He finished tied for fifth in the WHL in goals and was seventh in points – finishing at the top of the league in short-handed goals.

Cozens was awarded the Harry Ingarfield Memorial Trophy as the Hurricanes Most Valuable Player for 2019-2020, while also being the Canadian Tire South Top Scorer and the 106.7 ROCK Three Star Award winner. Additionally, the forward was named to the WHL First All-Star Team.
