Ten players selected by Lethbridge Hurricanes in WHL Bantam Draft

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The 2020 WHL Bantam Draft has been completed.

With their first-round pick, the Lethbridge Hurricanes have selected forward Cole Miller with the 16th pick. Miller is from Edmonton and last played for the Edmonton KC Bantam AAA Squires.

He played in 28 games, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 15 assists, for a total of 26 points. Miller also racked up 10 penalty minutes.

With the first overall pick, the Regina Pats selected North Vancouver forward Connor Bedard. With West Vancouver Academy Prep, Bedard scored 43 goals over 36 games, along with 41 assists for 84 points.

He picked up 32 penalty minutes in those 36 games.

In the second round, the Hurricanes selected Noah Chadwick with the 38th pick. The defenceman out of Saskatoon last played for the Saskatoon Stallions BAA team.

With their 45th pick, in the third round, the ‘Canes picked forward Logan Wormald out of Langley, B.C. Wormald last played for the Yale Hockey Academy.

The team’s next pick came in the fifth round, 104th overall, and they selected forward Dustin Renas. In 2019-2020, the Saskatoon skater played in 31 games with the Saskatoon Maniacs Bantam AA, totalling 67 points (33 goals and 34 assists), along with 58 penalty minutes.

In the sixth round, Lethbridge picked goaltender Brady Smith 123rd overall. He dressed in 17 games with the Yale Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team in the 2019-2020 season, posting a 13-2-0 record with a 1.55 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.

With their 148th overall pick, in the seventh round, the Hurricanes selected defenceman Aiden Ziprick. The Russell, Manitoba-born d-man played in 36 games last season with the Parkland Rangers Bantam 1AAA team. He collected 48 points (14 goals, 34 assists) along with 42 penalty minutes.

Zach Bansley was selected 170th overall (eighth round). He spent the 2019-2020 season with the North East Wolfpack Bantam AAA club. With the team, he scored 39 goals and recorded 47 assists. The forward also picked up 30 penalty minutes across 31 games.

In the ninth round, Lethbridge selected defenceman Kaden Phillips 192nd overall. The Sundre, Alberta player spent 2019-2020 with the Olds Grizzly’s Bantam AA team of the SCABL. He scored three goals and had 19 assists, along with 42 penalty minutes in 29 games. In three post-season matchups, he had one assist with 16 penalty minutes.

With their final two picks in the draft, the ‘Canes selected defenceman Adam Beamin in the tenth round (214th overall) and forward Rylan Williams in the 11th round (236th overall).

Beamin played in 31 games with the Saskatoon Stallions Bantam AA team last season, racking up 22 points (three goals and 19 assists), along with 30 penalty minutes. Williams recorded 66 points (30 goals, 36 assists) in 31 games with the Swift Current Broncos Bantam AA club in 2019-2020.
