No concern about food shortages, when you can buy direct from Alberta farms

LETHBRIDGE, AB. – It’s still several months further along on the calendar but, Alberta Agriculture is cautiously optimistic that Alberta Open Farm Days will take place on August 15 and 16.

With that in mind, planning is underway and organizers are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely, to make adjustments as necessary.

In the meantime, concerns continue to grow regarding possible shortages of meat and other products, due to the current COVID-19 impacts at the Cargill meat plant in High River and the JBS plant in Brooks.

Beef shortages should not be a concern, as consumers are reminded that there are many ways to shop farm-fresh across the province, without having to wait for farmers’ markets.

You can purchase everything from cheese and meat products, to honey, wine and produce by using subscription boxes or contacting local farms directly for their products. Some farms operate stores right on their property, where you can purchase directly or have their products delivered.
