97 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, no new cases in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has confirmed 97 new cases of COVID-19.

That’s one of the lowest numbers of new cases reported by the Alberta government. Saturday’s latest update brings the provincial total of confirmed infections to 5,670.

Of these total cases, there are currently 88 people in hospital, 19 of whom have been admitted to the ICU, according to the province.

725 cases of suspected of being due to community transmission.

Two new deaths have been reported, bringing the province’s death toll to 94. Two Calgary women in their 90s at continuing care facilities passed away.

In Alberta, 157,517 COVID-19 tests have been completed, with 2,534 patients having fully recovered.

In the past 24 hours, 3,751 tests have been completed.

According to the province, 597 cases have been confirmed at continuing care facilities, and 66 residents at these facilities have died.

The latest breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

· Calgary Zone – 3,775 cases, 61 deaths

o 66,391 tests

· South Zone – 1,054 cases, 5 deaths

o 12,263 tests

· Edmonton Zone – 501 cases, 12 deaths

o 43,257 tests

· North Zone – 218 cases, 15 deaths

o 11,560 tests

· Central Zone – 88 cases, one death

o 12,341 tests

The province has listed 34 confirmed cases in which the region is not known.

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by each community is as follows:

· Brooks – 970 cases (20 new), 143 recovered, four deaths

· Medicine Hat – 31 cases, 16 recovered

· Lethbridge – 17 cases, 10 recovered

o South Lethbridge – eight cases, five recovered

o West Lethbridge – seven cases, five recovered

o North Lethbridge – two cases

· County of Newell – 11 cases, one recovered

· Cypress County – eight cases, seven recovered

· Cardston County – five cases

· M.D. of Taber – two cases, two recovered

· County of Forty Mile – two cases, two recovered

· Special Area No. 2 (which is just above the County of Newell and Cypress County on AHS’ Health Zones map) two cases, one death

· Lethbridge County – one case, one recovered

· Fort Macleod – one case

The province is still reminding people that non-essential travel is still not recommended, including travel within Alberta. This will remain the case until the third stage of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy.
