Supporting Ronald McDonald Houses on Giving Tuesday

May 5, 2020 | 7:26 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Today is not only May 5, but it’s also a day known as Giving Tuesday.

It’s a day to spread positivity and generosity, with many groups asking Canadians to promote and take part in random acts of kindness.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES

One of the major supporters of Giving Tuesday is Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

In the wake of COVID-19, RMHC has started a campaign to raise $387,000. The organization says it’s experienced a reduction of 30 to 70 percent of funding due to the cancellation of fundraising events and volunteer programs because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The $387,000 fundraising goal honours the number of families RMHC has helped since 1981. So far, Canadians have helped raise $44,448 for the campaign.

“As a recognized essential service, we continue to serve existing families at Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada during COVID-19,” RHMC said in a release.

“In support of our hospital partners, we have temporarily repurposed select Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, right inside the hospital, to provide rest and respite for frontline healthcare workers, and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is currently being used as a maternity clinic in Calgary.”

RMHC stated that any donations will help them continue to deliver in their mission of keeping families close to their seriously ill child being treated in hospital through:

· Individually packaged non-perishable food

· Hot meals for a family

· Extra cleaning supplies for advanced cleaning procedures

· Gift of Family Nights to help a family stay together at a Ronald McDonald House

“We believe we are stronger together. And if we can’t be together, we can work together to support families with seriously ill children across your community.”
