LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta says a new hub will be available soon to ensure seniors can get the help they need.

CORE – Collaborative Online Resources and Education – will make it easier for organizations to share resources and coordinate services.

It will have a key focus on COVID-19 issues such as transportation, food security, social isolation, and home supports and will carry on after the pandemic ends.

“There are a variety of resources that exist in the community to support senior,” says Senior Medical Director with Alberta Health Services Dr. Richard Lewanczuk. “Sometimes they are hard to find, so we are pleased CORE is coordinating these resources, making them accessible in one single location to provide an easy way for Alberta seniors to access information they need to improve wellness, independence, and quality of life.”

The hub will link to Alberta 211 for seniors seeking direct supports and will have online forums to access training, share resources, and promote best practices.

CORE will cost $40,000 to develop and the province will be investing around $720,000 in inter-agency programs and initiatives.

The hub will be administered by the United Way of Calgary and Area.

“We are using this technology to better serve Alberta seniors,” adds Seniors and Housing Minister Josephine Pon. “Older individuals are among those most at-risk for COVID-19. We believe the online knowledge hub will enhance the way organizations support seniors during the pandemic, and help keep them safe as we move forward with our relaunch plans.”

CORE will utilize AHS, Alberta Blue Cross, and the federal government as funding partners.
