Police asking any witnesses to a downtown fight to come forward

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Police are investigating the report of a fight involving a group of people, which took place at 8:07 Friday (May 15) night in the 300 block of 5 Street South, on the southwest side of Galt Gardens. They ask that anyone who has information to come forward.

Police arrived just two minutes after a caller reported the fight was taking place in the street but, the disturbance had broken up and the parties involved had scattered throughout the park and down the streets.

An officer canvassed the area in an effort to locate anyone who had been involved in the altercation or witnessed what happened. Several groups of males were located. The first two groups indicated they had not been involved in the altercation and one man from the third group, alleged he was in a fight, but did not want to get involved in the investigation.

No other witnesses, victims or persons of interest were located at the time. However, a video recorded after the altercation, was posted on social media later in the evening. It alleged a black truck was associated to two men involved in the fight.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area of Galt Gardens between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. and witnessed the altercation or has information that could assist the investigation, to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
