COVID-19 update for Saturday has 14 new cases in the South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — A total of 72 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the last 24-hours bringing the number of total active cases to 1,084.

Alberta’s hospitalization rate remains low with 60 people currently in hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care. In total, 5,377 Albertans have recovered from COVID-19. One more Albertan has died.

There has been a total of 126 deaths across the province: 90 in the Calgary zone; 15 in the North zone; 12 in the Edmonton zone; eight in the South zone; and one in the Central zone.

The South zone reported 14 new cases: 10 in Brooks and 4 in Cardston County.

As noted in Friday’s update:

Limits extended for outside gatherings

  • Outside gatherings are now limited to a maximum of 50 people.
  • Physical distance of two metres must remain between people from different households, and attendees must follow proper hygiene practices.
  • Attendees should not share food or drinks.
  • Indoor gatherings are still limited to fewer than 15 people, except when otherwise identified in public health orders such as workplaces, places of worship, and in restaurants.

Supporting Alberta businesses through relaunch

  • Stage one of Alberta’s relaunch strategy has begun.
  • The Alberta Biz Connect web page provides business owners with information on health and safety guidelines for general workplaces and sector-specific guidelines for those able to open in stage one of relaunch to ensure businesses can reopen safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Businesses and locations that are reopening can access a template on that web page to help plan how employees and patrons will be protected from the spread of infection.
  • Completion of this template is voluntary.

Breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

— Calgary zone – 4,519 cases, 870 active, 89 deaths (four new)

— South zone – 1,197 cases, 106 active, Eight deaths

— Edmonton zone – 518 cases, 61 active, 12 deaths

— North zone – 228 cases, 18 active, 15 deaths

— Central zone – 99 cases, 13 active,One death

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,085 cases (ten new), 83 active, seven deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 35 cases, five active
  • Lethbridge – 21 cases (one new), five active
    • South Lethbridge – 10 cases, three active
    • West Lethbridge – Eight cases, one active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, one active
  • County of Newell – 14 cases, three active
  • Cardston County – 15 cases (four new), ten active
  • Cypress County – 10 cases, three active
  • Fort Macleod – Four cases, one active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
