May 17, 2020 | 5:24 PM

STANDOFF, AB. — Very early Sunday (May 17) morning, the Blood Tribe received confirmation of new COVID-19 cases on the reserve, taking the total to ten. However, later in the morning, two more cases were added, taking the total to 12, with nine-active cases and three recovered.

The reserve’s Community Health officials continue working on contact tracing and urge Blood Tribe members to refrain from visiting, or accepting visitors, outside of your household.

All official COVID-19 confirmed cases are reported on the Alberta Health Services COVID-19 webpage. Kainai/Blood Tribe cases are combined with Cardston County which includes a large portion of the south zone area. Any official Kainai/Blood Tribe cases are reported and confirmed by BTDH.

On May 14, some area businesses and services were allowed to lift restrictions due to Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy. However, all restrictions remain in effect on the Blood Reserve.

Blood Tribe Health officials highly caution residents to be vigilant in following all safety measures: stay home as much as possible, limit travel to essential reasons only and continue to carry out preventive practices against the contraction and spread of COVID-19.

“All regulations to keep our community safe are still in place – curfew, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and travel restrictions.”

The Blood Tribe continues to stress the importance of remembering the vulnerable within their community, such as parents and grandparents who are at the greatest risk of contracting COVID-19.

The Blood Tribe has Emergency Housing available – please call (403) 737-8141 for more details. Remember our Blood Tribe members in your prayers, especially those that are facing this difficult time.

Reserve residents who are feeling ill should call (403) 737-8411 immediately.
