COALDALE, AB – Two people were taken to hospital Tuesday evening with what police described as serious injuries.

Coaldale RCMP, along with the Coaldale and District Fire Department/EMS responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 512 at the intersection with Range Road 205. Crews responded around 6:40 p.m.

A black Mitsubishi Pajero was traveling eastbound on Highway 512. At the intersection of Range Road 205, a white Ford F-350 heading west turned left or southbound into the path of the Mitsubishi, according to a release from the Coaldale RCMP.

The collision caused extensive damage to the right-hand drive Mitsubishi. That vehicle’s passenger, a 56-year-old woman from Coaldale was pinned in the wreckage. Fire personnel quickly extricated her from the vehicle. She was transported by ground ambulance to the Chinook Regional Hospital.

The male driver of the Mitsubishi was also taken to hospital. Police said both individuals suffered “serious injuries”. The 27-year-old male driver of the white Ford F-350 was not injured.

For about four hours, Highway 512 was blocked off. Lethbridge RCMP’s collision reconstructionist assisted Coaldale RCMP to investigate the scene. Traffic was diverted during that time.

Coaldale RCMP said that the female passenger of the Mitsubishi sustained serious lower body injuries. However, her injuries are not believed to be life threatening, according to RCMP.

The 53-year-old driver, also from Coaldale, suffered injuries to his chest area. RCMP said his condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The investigation continues. Anyone with further details is asked to contact the Coaldale Rural RCMP at (403) 329-5080.
