Calgary & Brooks to get more advance notice on relaunch strategy: Kenney

May 19, 2020 | 2:13 PM

CALGARY, AB – Premier Jason Kenney says the Cities of Calgary and Brooks will get a lot more advance notice this time around on opening up their economies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although Stage 1 of the Relaunch Strategy took effect last Thursday in all other parts of the province, the movement will be slower in those two cities as they have about three-quarters of all COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the province to date.

Kenney told media that a decision will be made and announced this Friday on whether those two communities will be allowed to reopen restaurants and hair salons on Monday, May 25 as proposed.

The province was criticized when restaurant and hair shop owners expecting to open on May 14 were told with 18 hours notice that they would not get that permission.

The premier said he regrets the short notice, but notes that his cabinet was acting on the advice of Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.
