Province confirms only one new COVID-19 case in South Zone Tuesday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has some more promising news regarding COVID-19 infections.

On Tuesday, May 26, there were only 22 new cases provincially, bringing the total to 6,901. Of those, 6,048 people have recovered while 714 people are still afflicted.

To date, 242,781 COVID-19 tests have been completed.

45 patients are hospitalized, five of which are currently in intensive care units (ICU).

For the South Health Zone, only one new person has contracted COVID-19, which is a person in Medicine Hat.

The province confirmed one additional death in the north zone. That means 139 Albertans have lost their lives as a result of the virus.

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,785 cases, 561 active
    • 101 deaths
    • 36 in hospital, four in ICU
  • South zone – 1,234 cases, 80 active
    • Eight deaths
    • Two in hospital
  • Edmonton zone – 524 cases, 49 active
    • 13 deaths
    • Five in hospital, one in ICU
  • North zone – 235 cases, 19 active
    • 16 deaths (one new)
    • Two in hospital
  • Central zone – 99 cases, three active
    • One death

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,095 cases, 41 active, seven deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 41 cases (one new), eight active
  • Lethbridge – 27 cases, eight active
    • West Lethbridge – 12 cases, five active
    • South Lethbridge – 12 cases, three active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, zero active
  • Cardston County – 24 cases, 13 active
  • County of Newell – 15 cases, two active
  • Cypress County – 14 cases, six active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, one active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
