City reopening playgrounds and other park amenities May 29

May 28, 2020 | 11:40 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– All play structures, outdoor fitness equipment, park benches, and picnic tables will be opened across the city starting May 29.

Lethbridge Parks General Manager Dave Ellis made the address, expressing the importance of social distancing.

Even though the parks will be fully open across the city Ellis stressed that the playgrounds will not be cleaned after use, therefore, anyone using the play place should wash their hands before and after.

The 123 play areas around the city will be open Friday morning, city officials are taking down the signage on every park, play structure, and outdoor fitness equipment.

Ellis added that physical distancing is vital.

“What has not changed is the requirement for physical distancing and that is going to require the parents and caregivers of the children using the playground to be extra vigilant.”

The city released we need to continue to:

· Practice proper hand hygiene.

o Wash/sanitize your hands often

o Refrain from touching your face

o Carry and use hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol content immediately before and after touching playground equipment or other park amenities.

· Consider limiting children and other members of your household to only visiting playgrounds that are close to your home. This will help limit the number of people your family may come into contact with.

· If a playground is frequently used, consider the additional risk this may pose to your family and avoid this spot.

· Maintain physical distancing and limit congregating with other people when entering and leaving the playground and supervising children playing (e.g. paths, benches, picnic areas).

· Individuals should maintain physical distancing when returning to vehicles or homes

With these amenities reopening, public washrooms, and picnic shelters will remain closed for the time being.
