LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is asking for the public’s help.

On Monday, May 25 at approximately 9:48 pm, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services were called to an alley on the 600 block of 3 Ave South on reports of a fire in a waste/recycling bin.

When firefighters arrived, they found a small fire next to a business.

The blaze was extinguished and no one was hurt, but damages were estimated at around $1,000.

On Wednesday, police viewed surveillance footage that showed an unknown man walking through the alley about half an hour before the fire was reported.

“There have been several occurrences in recent weeks where fires have been set in garbage containers and police are advising the public to watch out for any suspicious activity and if observed, report it immediately,” reads a media release from LPS.

“In addition, businesses and residents are advised not to stack combustible materials or debris against buildings or fence lines.”

Anyone who recognized the man is asked to call Lethbridge Police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
