Only one COVID-19 case in Lethbridge remains active

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta is reporting one of the lowest single-day increases in COVID-19 cases since it was declared a pandemic.

On Tuesday, June 2, the province confirmed a baker’s dozen of 13 new cases, bringing the provincial total to 7,057. Of those, 377 cases are still active while 6,537 have recovered.

For the South Health Zone, no additional people have contracted the virus since Monday’s update, leaving it at 1,239 to date. This means just two per cent of all cases in the region so far are still active.

Of the 27 infections that have been reported in Lethbridge during the public health crisis, only one remains active. This is for a person on the west side.

The number of deaths also remains flat at 143.

266,301 tests for the virus have been conducted in Alberta.

Everyone in Alberta is now eligible for COVID-19 testing, even for those who do not show any symptoms. To book an appointment, fill out the online self-assessment form on the Alberta Health Services website.

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,901 cases, 288 active
    • 104 deaths
    • 36 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 113,665 tests
  • South zone – 1,239 cases, 25 active
    • Nine deaths
    • Four in hospital, one in ICU
    • 18,994 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 560 cases, 45 active
    • 13 deaths
    • Nine in hospital, one in ICU
    • 66,320 tests
  • North zone – 246 cases, 17 active
    • 16 deaths
    • Three in hospital
    • 18,389 tests
  • Central zone – 98 cases, zero active
    • One death
    • 18,978 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,096 cases, eight active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 41 cases, six active
  • Lethbridge – 27 cases, one active
    • West Lethbridge – 12 cases, one active
    • South Lethbridge – 12 cases, zero active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, zero active
  • Cardston County – 24 cases, one active
  • Cypress County – 18 cases, seven active
  • County of Newell – 15 cases, two active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, zero active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
