Only seven new COVID-19 infections confirmed in Alberta Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta confirmed fewer than 10 new COVID-19 cases for Friday, June 5, one of the lowest numbers since the virus first entered the province.

Seven infections were confirmed, bringing the provincial total to 7,098. Of those, 328 cases are still active while 6,624 people have recovered.

Only one new case in the South Health Zone has been confirmed, which was for a person in Cardston County, while active cases in the region have fallen to 16.

No additional deaths were announced.

Across Alberta, 44 people remain in hospital, six of whom have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,921 cases, 238 active
    • 107 deaths
    • 30 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 120,538 tests
  • South zone – 1,243 cases, 16 active
    • Nine deaths
    • Two in hospital, one in ICU
    • 19,777 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 574 cases, 57 active
    • 13 deaths
    • Eight in hospital, one in ICU
    • 69,546 tests
  • North zone – 250 cases, 16 active
    • 16 deaths
    • Four in hospital
    • 19,709 tests
  • Central zone – 97 cases, zero active
    • One death
    • 20,172 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,094 cases, two active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 42 cases, two active
  • Lethbridge – 29 cases, two active
    • South Lethbridge – 13 cases, one active
    • West Lethbridge – 13 cases, one active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, zero active
  • Cardston County – 27 cases (one new), four active
  • Cypress County – 18 cases, five active
  • County of Newell – 15 cases, one active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, zero active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
