Province makes access to virtual health services permanent

EDMONTON, AB – The Government of Alberta hopes to permanently increase access to health services.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, the province introduced billing codes that it claims allowed patients to speak with physicians in a more efficient manner.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro says the virtual codes are being made permanent.

“Virtual codes will no longer be restricted only to a public health emergency. Physicians will continue to have virtual options to help them provide care, and Albertans will continue to speak to their doctor from the comfort of their homes.”

This will allow Albertans to have patient visits, consultations, and mental health services over the phone or through a secure video conference.

“In-person care will continue. This is simply another option for Albertans and their physicians.”

Shandro says this change is a response to the ever-changing needs of the people, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
