LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, June 17.

48 infections were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 7,530. Of those, 486 cases are still active while 6,893 people have recovered.

In the South Health Zone, there were seven new cases. Two of those were in North Lethbridge while Cardston County had four and one more person in Lethbridge County contracted COVID-19. It should be noted that all three of these jurisdictions border one another.

48 people in Alberta have been hospitalized, seven of whom have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

No additional deaths were confirmed anywhere in Alberta. This means the virus has still claimed the lives of 151 people.

Nearly 7,000 tests for COVID-19 have been completed in just the last 24 hours. This means that over 356,000 have been done to date.

“While we continue to test widely and identify some new cases daily, the spread of the virus remains relatively stable. In fact, it is likely that Albertans will soon no longer need such regular updates from me,” says Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw. “This is because the onus is increasingly on all Albertans to protect each other.”

As we progress into the summer, Dr. Hinshaw is asking people that, when their friends and family are hosting gatherings, to ensure they are doing so with proper health and safety protocols in place.
