LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, July 14.

86 new infections were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 8,912. Of those, 701 cases are still active while 8,048 have recovered.

This includes another seven cases in the South Health Zone.

“The virus has now been in Alberta for four months, and while we saw cases decline from the peak seen in April, our daily cases have begun to rise over the past few days,” says Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Two people in the Edmonton Zone died as a result of the virus, meaning it has claimed the lives of 163 Albertans.

While older people are more likely to experience serious complications from a COVID-19 infection, Dr. Hinshaw is concerned that larger numbers of younger Albertans are contracting the virus.

“Over the past two weeks, 780 new cases have been identified in the province with 57 per cent of these cases being under the age of 40. Of these, 30 per cent have not yet been linked to any known source.”

545,902 tests have been completed in Alberta to date.
