Lethbridge County issues warning concerning debris on road right-of-ways

Jan 5, 2017 | 11:29 AM

LETHBRIDGE –  county residents who are pushing snow and other debris onto County road right-of-ways need to cease the practice – or face consequences.

Some County home owners are pushing snow and ice from their property and driveways onto County roads, which is creating a hazard.

County policies do not allow the practice, as chunks of ice and piles of snow and can freeze quickly, making if difficult to remove and can damage equipment.  It also creates dangerous hazards for road traffic and equipment operators who can’t see solid ice beneath fresh snow.

The County can issue an immediate removal order and if a resident doesn’t comply, the County will remove the obstruction at the property owners’ expense.

The County’s authority in this matter is outlined in Lethbridge County Policy #303 and the Municipal Government Act, Division 2, clauses 16 and 18. Policy #303 states, “The owner shall be given 30 days or such shorter period of notice as may be appropriate to remove the obstruction”.
