LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge business owners needing advice on how to weather the COVID-19 storm now have a one-stop-shop to go to.

The Lethbridge Region Economic Recovery Task Force opened a physical storefront on Monday.

It’s located at the University of Lethbridge’s Dr. Foster James Penny Building at 324 5 Street South.

Business operators can stop by to have their questions answered on anything from financing and funding, how to deal with staffing needs, insurance, accounting, bankruptcy and insolvency, among many other topics in light of COVID-19.

“The Economic Recovery Task Force has been up and running since March, and [has] really been working on a number of pillars to support the business community and entrepreneurs,” said Trevor Lewington, CEO of Economic Development Lethbridge.

“This storefront location is going to be an important part of that. This is a way for us to provide advice one on one in a physical location that people can come to and get the help they need.”

The one-stop-shop features a large workspace in the upper area of the downtown building.

Stephen Mogdan, a partner at Stringam LLP Law Office has been leading this latest initiative.

He said business operators do not need to make an appointment when they come for advice, as this is intended to be a drop-in style service.

“Depending on what exact services or advice a person needs, we may not have somebody available on that day when they show up,” Mogdan noted.

“In that case, then we will look to organize a time when we do have that person available, or we can look at connecting them with our resources and partners virtually or by telephone.”

Volunteers can also offer legal advice for business operators powering through the pandemic.

Over the past few months, many services have been set up virtually, but Mogdan believes people still want to have in-person contact when possible, especially when it comes to business-related matters.
