426 COVID cases confirmed provincially over the weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released Monday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past three days.

Since the story LNN published on Friday covers tests that were completed on Thursday, this update entails the numbers for Friday to Sunday.

426 cases were confirmed across the province with 133 of those on Friday, 184 on Saturday, and 109 on Sunday. 1,370 cases are active while 12,293 people have recovered.

Nearly 200 of those were in the Calgary Zone and 101 were in the Edmonton Zone.

The South Health Zone faired quite well with just nine infections during that time, six of which were in Lethbridge, two in Medicine Hat, and one in Cardston County.

One person each in the Edmonton and North Zones died as a result of the virus, meaning it has now claimed the lives of 239 people in the province.

Provincially, 44 patients are currently hospitalized and eight have been admitted to intensive care units.

967,083 tests have been completed among 767,296 Albertans.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 7,525 cases, 590 active
    • 118 deaths
    • 315,615 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 3,093 cases, 551 active
    • 61 deaths (one new)
    • 252,633 tests
  • South zone – 1,740 cases, 27 active
    • 24 deaths
    • 54,043 tests
  • North zone – 924 cases, 174 active
    • 29 deaths (one new)
    • 66,748 tests
  • Central zone – 588 cases, 27 active
    • Seven deaths
    • 64,501 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,128 cases, one active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 153 cases (six new), 10 active, two deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 57 cases (three new), six active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 57 cases (two new), three active
    • North Lethbridge – 39 cases (one new), one active, one death
  • Cardston County – 103 cases (one new), two active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 69 cases (two new), two active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 59 cases, two active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 38 cases, one active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 32 cases, three active, one death
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – 32 cases, two active
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 26 cases, zero active, one death
  • County of Forty Mile – 21 cases, one active
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
