AHS confirms one COVID-19 death in South Zone, but only two new infections

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released Wednesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

114 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 14,180. Of those, 1,403 cases are active while 12,535 people have recovered.

Of those, only two infections were in the South Health Zone, both of which are in West Lethbridge.

The city now has 15 active cases. LNN reported back on August 24 that there were none.

One person in the County of Newell died as a result of COVID-19, but details on the patient have not been released.

To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 242 Albertans.

Provincially, 50 patients are currently hospitalized and nine have been admitted to intensive care units.

984,736 tests have been completed among 779,445 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 7,629 cases, 632 active
    • 118 deaths
    • 320,249 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 3,210 cases, 538 active
    • 62 deaths
    • 256,392 tests
  • South zone – 1,750 cases, 31 active
    • 25 deaths (one new)
    • 54,683 tests
  • North zone – 962 cases, 167 active
    • 30 deaths
    • 68,618 tests
  • Central zone – 597 cases, 32 active
    • Seven deaths
    • 65,559 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,128 cases, two active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 158 cases (two new), 15 active, two deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 61 cases (two new), 10 active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 58 cases, four active
    • North Lethbridge – 39 cases, one active, one death
  • Cardston County – 103 cases, two active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 69 cases, two active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 59 cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 38 cases, one active
  • Lethbridge County – 34 cases, four active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 32 cases, one active, two deaths (one new)
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 26 cases, zero active, one death
  • County of Forty Mile – 24 cases, four active
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
